CAMDEN, N.J. – More than 100 middle and high school students from across South Jersey competed in the 44th annual Coriell Institute Science Fair on March 15 at Rutgers University – Camden. This year’s fair also marked the return of this marquee event to the City of Camden.
The annual Coriell Institute Science Fair provides a showcase for students in grades 6 – 12 from Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester counties to demonstrate their passion for science through exceptional projects that span the sciences, including biochemistry, computer science, mathematics, medicine and health, physics, and many other STEM disciplines. Coriell Science Fair winners advance to the Delaware Valley Regional Science Fair (DVSF), with DVSF winners having the opportunity to advance to the highly acclaimed Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair and the opportunity to compete for more than $8 million in prizes, awards and scholarships.
“Based on the analytical, research, and presentation skills that our students demonstrate through their projects, I can see that our pipeline of future researchers is extremely talented,” said Jean-Pierre Issa, MD, President and CEO of the Coriell Institute. “I am truly amazed at each fair at how students are developing innovative approaches to improve human health and our quality of life and expand our knowledge of the universe.“
Dr. Lewis L. Coriell, the founder of Coriell Institute, recognized how important it is to reach out to the community and share our passion for science.
“As the current stewards of the Institute it is our responsibility to cultivate future generations of scientists who will carry on our work here and elsewhere. That is why this science fair, and our other educational programs, are so important to us,” added Issa.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Annette Reboli, Dean of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.
