NIGMS Repository staff traveled to Denver, Colorado, to attend and exhibit at the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) Annual Meeting. As the premier event in human genetics, ASHG brings together thousands of scientists, clinicians, and industry professionals to share cutting-edge research, discuss technological advances, and shape the future of genetic and genomic science.
This year’s meeting highlighted innovations in genome sequencing, polygenic risk scores, functional genomics, and the integration of multi-omic data. Attendees explored how these discoveries are accelerating our understanding of complex traits and diseases and driving progress toward more personalized approaches in healthcare.
NIGMS Repository staff engaged with researchers from around the world at our exhibit booth, showcasing the breadth and value of the NIGMS Human Genetic Cell Repository’s high-quality, well-characterized cell lines and DNA samples. Our team was on hand to discuss how these resources support a wide array of studies, from rare disease investigations to large-scale genomic analyses.
In addition to exhibiting, NIGMS Co-PI Dr. Matthew Mitchell presented a poster titled “The Impact of a Research Resource: A 5-Year Review of Peer-Reviewed Publications Utilizing Samples from the NIGMS Human Genetic Cell Repository.” The poster highlighted the impact of Repository samples in advancing scientific discovery and underscored the critical role of accessible, well-documented biospecimens in genetics research.
Scientific sessions and poster presentations at ASHG 2024 tackled critical topics such as population genetics, ethical data sharing, and the future of gene editing technologies. By participating in ASHG 2024, the NIGMS Repository reaffirmed its dedication to advancing human genetics research. Through collaboration, outreach, and resource sharing, we continue to empower scientific discoveries that expand our understanding of human biology and improve public health.
