Coriell’s Dr. Nahid Turan Contributes to Prominent Precision Medicine Summit

11/2015

Dr. Nahid Turan, principal investigator of the NIGMS Human Genetic Cell Repository (NIGMS Repository) at Coriell, provided her insights and shared the stage with a panel of precision medicine experts during a prestigious, two-day conference.

Conducted in November 2015 at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, the Personalized Medicine Conference is commonly considered to be the burgeoning field’s most significant annual event.

Dr. Turan, who manages the historical NIGMS Repository collection that has informed research efforts at the national and international level for over four decades and which contains over 11,400 unique cell lines, participated in a panel conversation titled, “Precision Medicine Initiative in the U.S. and Abroad”. This panel concentrated on the promise and prospective challenges advanced by the White House’s forward-leaning program.

In addition to a round of workshops and lectures, there were several keynote speakers who are recognized authorities on precision medicine, including Dr. Kathy Hudson, Deputy Director for Science, Outreach and Policy at the National Institutes of Health, and Harvard’s Dr. Richard Hamermesh.

Other noteworthy participants include Dr. Robert Califf, Deputy Commissioner of the U.S. FDA Office of Medical Products and Tobacco; Sir John Chisholm, Executive Chair of Genomics England; and Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
